Getting started
We first meet with clients to obtain a clear understanding of their financial needs. We identify short- and long-term goals, define the level of risk each client is comfortable with, and determine the length of time they plan to invest.
We also get a better understanding of each client’s tax and legal situation, their needs around retirement and estate planning, and any preferences or restrictions regarding securities or asset classes.
As a fee-only advisor, we provide independent, objective advice. Our fixed annual fees are based on a percentage of each client’s assets under management, keeping our financial success tied to that of our clients. The planning services we provide are included as part of that package.
Customized financial road maps
With each new client, we prepare an investment policy and strategy statement, which details a client’s current financial situation, lists specific goals, and outlines a plan for achieving them.
This is an iterative and highly collaborative document—we work closely with each client to create goals and objectives that are both meaningful and attainable. Through this process, we develop a “road map” that we keep current as changes occur in the investment world and in our clients’ financial situations. In addition to specific financial goals, the road map includes relevant aspects of legal and tax planning needs.
Personal meetings
Our clients have direct access to our key decision makers and owners. We encourage periodic meetings with our clients, particularly during significant changes such as a birth, home purchase, or retirement, as well as during changes in the investment marketplace.
Quarterly evaluations
Once a quarter, we create investment evaluations for each client. These are comprehensive reports, which include:
- Specific performance results
- List of purchases and sales
- Year-to-date realized gains and losses
- Appraisal of all securities in the portfolio
We also provide a market commentary that includes a forecast of the near-term economy and investment market performance. |
